What is IOSCO?

IOSCO is the International Organization of Securities Commissions, which currently has over 170 members.

IOSCO member agencies cooperate to promote high standards of securities regulation in order to maintain just, efficient and sound markets. Member agencies exchange information on their respective experiences in order to promote the development of domestic markets and jointly pursue effective surveillance of international securities transactions. They also provide mutual assistance to promote the integrity of the markets by a rigorous application of the standards and by effective enforcement against offenses. From time to time, IOSCO issues press releases on topics that are of interest to investors. Recent topics include a cautionary statement on non-GAAP results measures and an alert on cold calling. In 2002 the chairman of the Ontario Securities Commission was named to lead a senior-level committee of IOSCO members to examine issues raised by the collapse of Enron.
